Looking back, thinking ahead
It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of 2021 already; another year governed by a global pandemic that has presented huge challenges for people all over the world, both personally and professionally.
Here at Gekko, we believe in silver linings – and while there have been lots of ups and downs over the past 12 months, as we close out the year we’re reflecting on the positives that have got us feeling fired up for 2022!
Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, we’ve had an incredibly busy year at Gekko and that gives us a huge buzz – because if we’re busy, it means our distributors and contractors are too! It’s been great to see the entire construction industry getting back into full swing over the past 12 months, bringing much-needed economic activity and supporting growth. For us personally in the flooring industry, a major highlight of 2021 was being able to attend The Flooring Show 2021 in Harrogate, and get face-to-face with lots of our customers and industry colleagues as well as witnessing first-hand the innovation that continues to take place in spite of global events. We’ve very proud to be a part of it!
On that note, it’s been wonderful to welcome some new distributors into the Gekko family, with special mention going to Kellars Flooring and Likewise Group, both of whom offer nationwide distributor for flooring contractors, backed up by first-class customer service – and of course, a huge product portfolio containing the very best adhesives in the business! We’re very proud to be selected by these industry movers and shakers, demonstrating Gekko’s growing reputation as a market-leading brand.

Of course, a growing distributor network including some of the biggest names in flooring means that Gekko is getting into the hands of more and more flooring contractors, and being used in more and more exciting projects all over the UK and Europe on a weekly basis! From small jobs to big ones, we always get a kick out of seeing Gekko in use, but this year a few jobs have stood out, including a massive flooring project at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin, some ‘prime’ Gekko application at an Amazon warehouse just in time for Black Friday, and a truly sticky wicket when Gekko was used to stick down the flooring for an indoor cricket facility on Merseyside (images courtesy of Durant Cricket & The Sports Flooring Co. )
Leading the way on health
Health has been a major global focus over the past two years and it’s no different in the world of adhesives. Here at Gekko, what started out as dabbling in DCM-free has turned into a full-on obsession that’s seen us launch two brand new water-based adhesives, with more product innovations in the pipeline. We’re also planning a healthier adhesives campaign aimed at raising awareness of respiratory health among our flooring industry colleagues, and explaining how contractors can prioritise health without compromising on performance. Heading into 2022, we’ll be switching up the format of our Gekko sample boxes to include our healthier adhesive products, and we’ll be continuing to push the envelope in terms of removing harmful chemicals from all adhesive products as soon as possible in the future.
So that’s it – we’ll be signing off for 2021 in the coming days, but before we do we’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive Gekko thank you to every single person who has supported our journey over the past year, from our amazingly dedicated in-house team, to our distributors, our marketing partners and of course to you, our customers. We look forward to working with you again next year!
